If you’re a New Jersey driver, you’ve probably noticed red light cameras installed at some busy intersections. These red light cameras in NJcameras were installed to help reduce traffic accidents and careless driving. However, a new study shows that the number of accidents has actually increased at these intersections. Rear-end collisions, in particular, have increased by 20 percent. This could be because drivers who see the cameras are more likely to slam on their breaks to avoid a ticket.

If these cameras are doing more harm than good, lawmakers will have to decide whether or not to keep them. In the meantime, it’s a good idea to be more careful than usual at NJ intersections. Always obey traffic lights and stop signs. Never speed up to make a light or slam on your brakes when there is a vehicle directly behind you. You may end up avoiding a serious intersection accident.

Even if you use caution at NJ intersections, there will always be other drivers on the road who make unsafe choices. I've noticed in my own area that accidents are up where there are these types of cameras. When people slam on the breaks at a red light usually the car behind them thinks they're going and end up speeding to try to make the light as well and ends up hitting the other car.
