4/26/2012If you work in an office, chances are, you spend a lot of time behind a computer. Unfortunately, repetitive motions, like typing, could lead to musculoskeletal injuries, such as carpal tunnel. To prevent these types of injuries, you should stretch your muscles every day.
Think about it; you wouldn’t go for a run without stretching first. So why is typing any different? In fact, you depend on your hands and wrists for your livelihood, so you should keep them as healthy as possible.
Ideally, you should stretch your muscles every day in the morning, at lunchtime, and at the end of the workday. Stretching can keep your wrists from getting too tight and causing injuries.
To stretch your wrists, you should hold both arms in front of you with your palms facing down. Next, raise your palms so they are facing the wall and hold them in this position for approximately 5 seconds. After you have completed this set, make a fist and perform the same motions (fist facing the ground, then facing the wall). Return back to your flat palm position and alternate this exercise 10 times.
Getting used to this routine may take some time, but you should do it at least 3 times a week in order to reap the benefits. If you are embarrassed stretching in front of coworkers, you can do this at home before and after work.
