Bayonne Workers Exposed to Carbon Monoxide & Noise
Posted on May 19, 2014
Bayonne, NJ – Roasted nut manufacturer Star Snacks Co. LLC has been cited by OSHA for numerous safety violations. Workers were reportedly exposed to dangerous levels of carbon monoxide and noise hazards.
Back in 2007, a forklift operator was overexposed to carbon monoxide and hospitalized. After seven years, Star Snacks Co. still doesn’t have the necessary safeguards in place to protect its workers from carbon monoxide, noise, and other safety hazards.
“This lack of care for employee health is unacceptable,” said Kris Hoffman, director of OSHA’s Parsippany Area Office.
Workers’ compensation is not just for specific, one-time accidents. It is also possible that your injury or illness developed over a long period of time. These injuries, called occupational exposures, are usually caused by repetitive motion or exposure to dangerous substances.
If you have an occupational exposure, it is impossible to determine the exact time you were injured. Insurance companies may use this fact to unfairly dispute your claim. However, workers’ compensation recognizes both specific accident claims and occupational exposure claims. For either type of injury, you may be entitled to fully-paid medical care, pay for lost wages, and a cash settlement.
